WP 101 ~ Build your own WordPress Website
If you are a business start up, an entrepreneur, or just someone who wants to learn web design, this would be perfect for you. Save thousands of dollars from hiring a web designer by following my easy step by step instructions on making your very own website with WordPress.
I have developed a series of videos for you to follow along on building a self hosted website. This used to be a paid course, however with the ever growing technology, interfaces changes etc, I am now offering if for free. So you will notice when following along, that some fields are not where they are, or that some menus have changed. However, it shouldn’t be hard to figure out the changes.
I recorded every step of the way while building a website called www.thisdesigngirl.com from buying the domain name, to buying hosting, to installing the custom WordPress theme, to building menus and pages.
To get started, fill out the form on the right, grab a coffee, come back and start learning!

FAQ
By the end of the course, you will have:
- Your own website up and running with a customized theme installed.
- Your own domain.
- Your own hosting.
- Your own email through your own domain.
- Learned how to edit and maintain your own website.
- Free access to all of my other tutorials and videos on my website that will further help you with your brand.
- Get quality design related articles delivered right to your inbox. And don’t worry, I never spam because #spamsucks.
That all depends on how committed you are to learn. For me, I can get a website up and running within 8 hours. And that is with all the graphics and images. But realistically for beginners, you can achieve having your basic website up over the weekend. The biggest chunk of time is customizing the theme that you choose. Just remember that prior to starting the website, you should map out your website and have all the content ready to cut and paste, such as the about page, the services page, etc. Make sure you soak it all in and remember to take the time and ENJOY the process!
You will need:
- Design Software (Adobe Photoshop or Canva.com is a nice to have, but not crucial, however you will eventually need a graphic editing software to add images to your website).
- A web browser such as Chrome or Safari.
You should know how to navigate the internet, know some technical terminology, have time commitment, and a willingness to learn.
If you want to make a basic website, then no. But don’t worry, I will go over some basic HTML tags with you.
My course is free, but you will need the following (if you already don’t have it), which I will go over in Lesson 1:
- Domain Name
- Web Hosting
- Web Security (optional and recommended)
- Custom Website Theme (optional)
- Depending on what options you get and length of term, you are looking between $70 – $400 a year. I will teach you step by step on how and where to get these.
